Hawkes Bay Turning Collaboration 2017
This invitational Turning Collaboration began at Fielding in 2006. Over the following four years in that town the style and content of the Collaboration grew and matured. In 2011 the Collaboration moved to Putaruru with new and different challenges. Now it is held at Napier Boys High in sunny Hawkes Bay with 30 invited participants - not all woodturners - some painters, carvers, and a silversmith.
This year teams of three were given three challenges which are shown in the photos in this gallery. Photos 1 to 9 are made from 100 year old rimu posts removed from the old cattle pavilion at Hawkes Bay Showgrounds in Hastings; photos 10 to 18 are items made from any wood but the finished work had to include some non-ferrous metal; and photos 19 to 27 are items made to include wood gathered from the seashore. The remaining photos are of items made collaboratively by two or more of the participants.
At the end of the five day collaborative gathering all these items were auctioned to provide funds for the next event. This gallery contains all the completed pieces from the Collaboration held in Hawkes Bay in January 2017.
A total of 122 items were produced.
